HOUSTON (CBS Houston):  For the first time since Rookie Camp, number 70 was on the field for the Houston Texans.

Second round pick Xavier Su’a-Filo was happy to get back to his teammates today.  He had been unable to join the team for OTAs because his university, UCLA, was still in session.  UCLA utilized the quarter system instead of traditional semesters.  NFL rules prevent rookies from practicing (excluding 3 day rookie minicamp) while classes are in session.

“I wanted to just get back as fast as I could, and I’m glad I finally am,” Su’a-Filo said, both happy and relieved to be a part of the team on the field again.

Su’a-Filo had been trying to learn the offense from afar while unable to practice.

“I had an iPad, was ale to keep up with the playbook,” he said, but then added  “It was only mental reps.”

He knows the physical reps are where he must show his improvement and knowledge to the coaching staff.  “I’m trying to catch up and do the best I can.”

Su’a-Filo also came to terms with the Texans on a 4 year deal worth $5.55 million.  The deal includes $3.96M guaranteed and a $2.35M signing bonus.   All Texans draft picks are now under contract.
